Body Work Part 2, Rear Tub - 2018

Continuing with the bodywork I started to tackle the rear tub. It was very dinged up, very flakey, and quite corroded in areas.

I didn’t want to disassemble the entire thing as I didn’t want to rivet it back together and I couldn’t spot-weld it. I decided to knock out a few of the bad dents and replace just the floor and steel cross members. I started by steam cleaning it and degreasing it as it was very oily underneath. It was too huge to use paint thinners on so I resorted to the sander for removing most of the paint and oxidisation.

Then painted the entire thing in grey primer and 2 part top coat.

Steam cleaned and disassembled. You can see all the layers of paint. It was blue from the factory then painted limestone, the painted blue again.

New Rear sill and floor added.

Dirty girl.

Brand new floor and cross members.

Sanded and cleaned. Very careful to not take off too much aluminium. I like the spot weld marks on the side. I used paint stripper in the hard to reach areas.

Very nice stainless body mounting plates with with captive nuts to brace the corroded areas. made by YRM Solutions.

Sadly no pictures of it getting painted. But there is the end result.

Looking very clean and tidy.
