Land Rover Series 2a

Gearbox rebuild - 2018

This was interesting.

It was steam cleaned. Then disassembled. Every part was cleaned in a little part washer from eBay, rinsed in water, dried with a heat gun, had oil brushed over it to stop rust, and bagged to stop the dust getting to them. I probably didn’t need to go to such NASA efforts but I have no idea. It took days to do over several weeks. Then I began the reassembly. New bearings and gaskets. Plenty of gasket sealer (it’ll still leak) and it’s ready to get to work.

I had 1 washer left over from reassembly. I can’t work out where it’s from, it’s large and flat and hopefully it’s not that necessary. We will see.
